Who We Are

Safe to Sleep (STS) inspires hope for women experiencing homelessness by providing emergency shelter and case management services, which help them overcome obstacles to sustainable housing. Safe to Sleep is the only local low-barrier women’s shelter available 365 days a year.

Once the guest’s immediate need for shelter is met, the focus turns to setting and achieving goals that lead towards permanent sustainable housing. Case managers walk alongside guests in support of each goal by providing transportation to and from appointments, connecting guests with medical and mental healthcare, securing identification documents, finding employment, looking for an apartment or completing affordable housing paperwork.

Since 2011, Safe to Sleep has provided a safe haven for more than 2,800 homeless women. In an atmosphere of dignity and compassion, women have safe shelter and support services to move them from scarcity to security.

What We Do

Provide Overnight Safety

Safe to Sleep provides emergency overnight shelter to women 18 & over.  Some are homeless and spend several nights, some are simply in for one night.  STS is hosted by a church and the shelter is set up in a gym each night.  We are currently averaging 30-40 women a night at the shelter.

Identify & Reduce Barriers

Safe to Sleep guests meet with staff to help identify barriers to safe housing and employment. Staff assist guests in document retrieval, housing and/or healthcare applications, and transportation plans.

Meet with a Case Manager

Guests meet with a Safe to Sleep case manager, who helps them prepare goals leading to sustainable housing. STS follows up regularly to maintain supportive assistance throughout their progressive journey.

Want to help?

Volunteer

Our volunteers oversee shelter operations during full or partial shifts (sleep shifts included for overnight volunteers). Volunteers serve with compassion, assist in the set-up of evening/morning refreshments, and help guests with basic needs.

Donate

Frequently needed items include, NEW women's panties (size 5 - 7), NEW women's socks, bus passes, earplugs, Lysol, coffee, powdered creamer. Call for current items most needed.

The average cost per night to run the shelter and offer support services is $675. By “Adopting a Night,” you make it possible for homeless women to have a SAFE place — out of the elements and away from abuse — to sleep at night.

You can adopt an entire night, sponsor a guest, or give any amount to help.
