Who We Are

The Math Buddy Program serves students at McGregor, Pittman, and Weller Elementary Schools.

The Reading Buddy Program began in 1997 in response to the America Reads Initiative. The goal was, and still is, to help students read at grade level by third grade. Volunteers provide one-on-one reading tutoring sessions to elementary students in Kindergarten to 3rd grade.

What We Do

A Math Buddy volunteer meets with a 1st or 2nd-grade student during the school day twice a week for math instruction and play. A Buddy provides positive mentorship and encourages struggling students. CCO trains Buddies in math recovery strategies and tactics for at-risk students.

A Reading Buddy volunteer meets with a Kindergarten through third-grade student during the school day to ignite a passion for reading. A Buddy provides positive mentorship and encourages struggling readers. CCO trains Buddies in reading strategies and tactics for at-risk students. The Reading Buddy program is currently available in Springfield, Republic, Nixa, Fordland, and Willard Public Schools.
